The Sustainable Infrastructure Working Group (SIWG) Subcommittee is dedicated to assessing and reporting on the state of South Africa’s infrastructure with a focus on sustainability and lifecycle project management.
The subcommittee is tasked with implementing the roadmap outlined in the approach paper developed by the SIWG, setting clear milestones and timelines towards the completion of the Infrastructure Report Card (IRC) 2027, and assigning specific tasks and responsibilities to ensure effective reporting. It collects comprehensive data on various infrastructure sectors, utilizes sustainability metrics, and engages with stakeholders for diverse perspectives to reflect the full lifecycle of infrastructure delivery.
The subcommittee evaluates the current condition of infrastructure, analyses trends to predict future needs, drafts sections of the report, coordinates peer reviews, finalizes the report, integrates sustainability considerations, and develops actionable recommendations. Additionally, it prepares and disseminates publications and presentations, engages with media outlets, conducts stakeholder briefings, and regularly monitors and reports on progress. The mandate of the subcommittee is to develop and execute the roadmap for the IRC 2027, ensure a comprehensive assessment of South Africa’s infrastructure from a lifecycle perspective, promote sustainability, engage stakeholders, effectively communicate findings, and monitor and report progress. By fulfilling these duties and responsibilities, the SIWG subcommittee plays a crucial role in assessing and promoting the sustainability of South Africa’s infrastructure throughout its entire lifecycle, supporting the overall mission of SAICE and the PMCD.
